Chairman, Ken Smedley. Diagnosed with prostate cancer in June 2005

Towards the end of 2005 it was suggested that a support group may be set up in the local area with meetings taking place on a monthly basis. Over the first few months we had approximately 8 people attending the meetings, with our specialist nurse for urology cancer always in attendance. As membership grew it was decided that we should form a committee, this took place in July 2006 and I was asked to take on the role of chairman.

At present our membership is in excess of 100 with 50 to 70 patients and carers regularly attending meetings. Also with hard work we have secured sufficient funds to cover the general running costs of the group for two years. Everyone and anyone is welcome, whether it is the sufferer or the sufferers family or friends wanting to know what to do to help. We are all in it together.
